Momentos
by: tobek     21/07/2009

I am kicking this off... believing it can add spice to this site. Mainly, this is to share remarkable wonderful (or maybe awkward, funny, whatever...) memories or events we had in STAR. I will start with one story, then maybe you Superfriends could add up more.

While others may find this amusing, confusing, or even disgusting, I know we (the Superfriends) will definitely cherish these stories... (well, if you dont find it so, then you know where you belong. Hahaha!!!)

So, here it is...

1) THE VAN SAGA

OK.. its not about Proton Saga. I used the word "saga" to show how it went on again and again, one episode to another. And the "adventures" associated with it - "BORROWING" THE SCHOOL VAN TO DRIVE AROUND THE FIELD!

The adventures start right from the very beginning. Of course, the first step is to sneak into the garage, to slowly and quietly pushed the van out. Then still with the engines yet to be on, we had to slowly push the van onto the field. Isnt it adventureous enough (if you can still remember), that the only way we can push the van onto field is by going through the ramp right beside the guard house??? Hahaha...

Then, when we finally got that old van on the middle of the field, comes the main event. Driving it around the field! I can still remember those who had the privilege of free driving lessons from me. I should have charged you guys!!!

Well, the adventures didnt stop there. Like the saying goes, "sharing is caring". Why not? Move on to the next episode, we always drove the van all around the field at night, with some 30 passengers in it. Sounds illogical to you? Hmmmm, try to imagine how many could have climbed on top of the van, seated in its "ever steady" luggage bracket (see pic below). Then the number would make sense huh? (yup, it looks more or less like those passengers on top of Indian trains!) Mind you, that is in fact the preferred seating, considering the rich fresh air and the exciting "birds eye-view" you can enjoy from top. Not to forget, the higher adrenalin flow (considering the risks associated to it).

We even attempted a feat to break Guinness Book of Records (in our own league) by always trying to increase the numbers in (plus on) the van. Unfortunately, I cant really remember how many we had the highest.

After a while, this has also become "not-so-adventurous" deal. So whats next? Here comes the dare-devils, who would attempt to get into the van, while its on the move! Some would chase the van and try to enter from its side door, some from rear door, and some even tried climbing straight to that 1st class seat (yup... the roof-top!). Having achieved that, these advanced stuntmen became unstoppable and cried for more. With the driver (err...thats normally me) manouvering the van right through the rugby goal-post, these dare-devils on the roof-top would attempt to either go above or below the horizontal bar! How did they do it? I leave it to your imagination...

And all these crazy stuff done, just for the sake to re-do (if not to out-do) Indiana Jones!!!

So thats the glory part of it. The not-so ones? Well... maybe you could still remember one time when the van ran out of gas, and we just left it right in the middle of the field? Hahaha... pity that driver (was it Pakcik Zainuddin?) who had to walk through the field (with a bottle of petrol in his hands) to collect the van...

Then another ocassion when the van dont wanna start? After various failed attempts, we suspected that it has no gas. So theres this Einstein (you know who you are), comes up with a brilliant idea to check if the tank is really empty. Guess what? He dropped small stones into the tank (through the filler-neck), and waits to hear for any "plopp!" sound. You think thats brilliant enough? Wait. After "i dont know how many" stones dropped and failed to get the sound he expected, still this Einstein wanted to give a final shot. So he himself tried to kick-start the van. The next thing we knew was a loud explosion, thick black smokes coming out from the exhaust... and we were no more around to be seen! Thanks Einstein... I wonder how he survived to be an Engineer now.

Then, the final episode. As the Malay saying goes, "sepandai2 tupai melompat...". One fine night, while giving one of those "free driving lessons", we were caught. And why were we caught? Because that "student" was so worried that the engine might go off whenever he engaged the 1st gear, so he just rammed on the gas as much as he could. Imagine the kind of sound that old van made? Hahaha... By the way, that warden was kind enough not to report this, but he confiscated the KEYS. Without it, thats the end of our Van Saga...
